Wildlife art by Julie Rhodes – Original pencil drawings & Prints
Drawing is my passion, rivalled only by my obsession with wildlife. I love the simplicity of pencil, working in the negative allowing the white of the paper to become my highlights and the depth of the pencil to create shadows and texture.
Most of my artworks are completed using two or three pencils and a high quality Bristol board 500 surface. Each drawing takes between 50 and 300 hours to complete and I also spend many hours planning each drawing, working on new ideas, backgrounds, lighting.
I strive for hyperrealism in my drawings and a level of perfection which I feel I can never quite reach, this drives me on to make the next piece “perfect”
I specialise in big cats, lions, tigers, leopards but also many other wildlife subjects such as elephants and zebras. Tigers and lions are my favourite subjects to draw, I love to work on large pieces. I like to include texture and pattern in my work and wildlife provides me with endless choices here.
All my wildlife art is in black and white pencil / graphite. I have a selection of original fine art pieces for sale click here to view.
